On The Album Years podcast, long term friends, collaborators and music nerds Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness discuss and bicker about their favourite music released during the golden album years, which they reckon to be from around 1965 to the end of the millennium. Each episode focuses on a single year picked at random. At the end of each episode they pick their personal favourites and the album they think had the most long-term impact on music. Can you guess which albums they will pick?

Ok ok we get it 😂
Steven Wilson writes music and lyrics that take me on a journey every time I listen.
All I can think is ‘watch the road you myopic wanker!’
Free Palestine!!
Free Palestine!!!
What a great find!
That’s such a great track from his latest album, from the most famous, unknown person in music.
Hasn't taken drugs 🤣🤣🤣
El podcast está brutal. ¿Cuántas personas levantaron la mano cuando preguntaron quiénes conocían la canción de Taylor Swift? Jajaja.... Me quedé con esa duda, Tim es genial. ¡Muchas gracias muchachos! 🍷
And all i got is from this was " kiss me with your mouth" Its crazy what other people talking envokes in ones brain.
LMFAOOO
@@AsherracT did you know steven wilson is my kawaii princess
@@WetWildWest BACK OFF
I'm a little late in finding this incredible musician. Pariah introduced me to you and I had been obsessed with the song for a while. Then I checked out the harmony codex and a few other songs from your older albums....you are a musical idol of mine now.
What the hell is with all the bot comments
It is a helpless diversion, Fighting the dark every breath and decision Consume do I to turn to gold Pray do I you stay strong and bold Apology, chronology, agility; Stimulation, simulation, humanity. Paradigm, light and tranquility; Synthesis of red-blue, veracity. Some lines for you, great artist.
voice ready all time!!
First time I watched this record and quite impressed with this song's earlier versions either. Each different version in different times shows that quality of music and performance remains at the top. Humanrace is definitely lucky for having these extraordinary artists
Dm9 and Cmaj9/E are first 2 chords, he repeats those few times. The last one is G7.
Oh man this song captures a very specific emotion. goddamn. If you are reading this, I wish you well in life my friend. God bless!
Thank you for sharing this Steven. I am a life long drummer self taught and now playing guitar bass and keys so I can create at home and a lot of what I play I just play what sounds right to me and have no idea of the theory behind it. Cheers mate
Really enjoy so much listening to the process behind the songs , more please ! 🙏
I can relate so much to Steven when it comes letting your ears decide what sounds good or not. I started off learning music by ear for a long time and eventually took theory lessons. I think the advantage of progressing this way is that the theory gives you the ability to put a name to scales and chords that you already "know", because you've fiddled around and heard them before. I very much enjoyed the lessons because of this. I can't imagine not training your ears and just jumping straight into theory...
Rick Beato can tell you what those chords are. But I'm sure you know that. Your songs are beyond amazing btw.
I had an amazing musical friend once like this ... hes passed now at aged 55 with his musical talent writing songs 🎵 in heaven i bet .... we wrote kind of happy accident songs together without any formal musical training all from heart and instinct like Steve here 👏🏼
Dm9 - Cmaj7/E
maybe a Fmaj7/D and a Cmaj9/E ? i'm not sure tho 3rd chord should be a G7
It's so tender and familiar to put us for a while.. in your magic world..in front of your favorite piano..and sing for us... You are a simple and wonderful person.. Will always love you...Steven!!💎🎹🎹💎❤❤❤❤❤🌹
This is why I love your music so much, since the delerium years!
❤
I'm not a piano player
It have to admire and be amazed by the many very talented musicians and songwriters who don't know music theory - they just play notes and chords that sound right together and it works! Of course it's possible to just listen to the sounds that instruments make and figure out what sounds good in each situation, but what I find amazing is how they can reproduce those same sounds later without having a way to write them down (maybe they do have their own way? or is it just muscle or audio memory?). Plus it's really cool that they can just figure all this stuff out for themselves, when it's already been described in music theory (maybe they can even go outside the box and find something that isn't described in that?). I think I'm too deep into the theory side to ever be able to that myself though.
It's all magic to me. I have no idea how to get a pleasant sound out of a musical instrument.
Have you ever tried playing anything? Just curious
Siempre pensè que todos los artistas tocaban bajo una estructura perfecta, diseñada perfectamente, pero he aprendido poco a poco que mientras suene bien, està bien. Siempre respetando las escalas.
Beautiful!
See you in Dusseldorf 😁
I just let the fingers kind of find interesting shapes - Yeap, that's also the way i roll
I miss you cara😞
Sounds similar to Chubby Little Fat Man by Bowie on the series Extras. Lol ua-cam.com/video/kg7cCvojz2k/v-deo.htmlsi=r33qlgiysXXxs0Fs
He at least knows what a cord is and how to play one, thats the secret yes...?
Basically a C6/D and G6add4, it looks like Edit: I was definitely wrong on where I saw his fingers originally.
With some cool alternate voicings/inversions to make it interesting.
Only Steven Wilson could play a C7 chord without touching a black key 😜
That second chord is looking kinda sus.
Yeah, I watched this while I was nodding off for a nap and totally got that wrong haha! Updated. @@7riX7er
Thats pretry much my ways of doing it too, i let the feeling take control, i let the melody write itself.
Random youtube recommendation srsly wow
god
Absolutley great this
So great thisSong loved it
Excellent sounds like been influenced by Ian Anderson.
I saw Porcupine Tree here in 2003 and 2005. I also saw Blackfield in 2011 and Steven solo on the GFD tour 2012. I also spotted SW at a Tim Bowness solo gig just along the road at Bush Hall :) It is a fantastic venue!
USA tour king?
